SURFLINE FORECASTS INCREASING SWELL FOR THE 6.0 LOWERS PRO AND OAKLEY PRO JR MAY 4-8 AT TRESTLES

ASP PRIME Event Drawing Large Contingent of World’s Best Surfers Vying for Big Points San Clemente, Calif. (May 3, 2010)

Surfline is calling for small, but contestable, south-southwest swell for the start of the 6.0 Lowers Pro and Oakley Pro Junior at Lower Trestles, San Clemente, Calif. on Tues., May 4th. According to the official forecaster, a new and good-size south-southwest swell will build throughout the day on Wed. the 5th, looks strongest Thur. the 6th, and then slowly fades Fri. the 7th and into the final day Sat. the 8th.

The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) PRIME event, featuring one of the largest contingents of World Tour surfers on the mainland U.S., will run May 4-8 and also include the ASP Grade 2 Oakley Pro Junior. The combination of contestable swell, a world-class wave, major points and the elite athletes will ensure fierce competition at the famed Southern California surf break all week and into the weekend.

A recent storm in the Central South has set up a good size south-southwest swell for the Nike 6.0 Lowers Pro, building Wed. and into Thurs., before slowly fading through the following weekend.

According to Surfline, the forecast breaks down as follows:

TUESDAY 4th: Small SSW swell with mainly 3′ (waist high) surf and occasional larger sets.
WEDNESDAY 5th: New SSW swell builds throughout the day, starting in the 3-4′+ range (waist-shoulder high+) and building to 4-5-6′+ (shoulder high to slightly overhead) over the afternoon with some larger sets.
THURSDAY 6th: SSW swell continues with 4-6′+ surf (shoulder high to slightly overhead), with larger sets occasionally up to a couple feet overhead.
FRIDAY 7th: Slow fading SSW swell with more 4-6′ surf (shoulder high to slightly overhead) in the morning and occasional slightly larger waves.
SATURDAY 8th: Fading, but still fun SSW swell in the 3-5′ range (waist to head high) with some bigger waves possible in the morning.
